As a lover of History and Historic Places and artefacts, visiting Castles and Palaces is a pastime that I passionately enjoy. I also love to share the things I enjoy. So, I have decided to build this website as a directory of the many great castles and palaces that we have around our marvellous country, Scotland.
Scotland’s Great Castles and Palaces
Throughout Scotland, we have literally over 1500 Castles, Palaces and Historic houses. Many of which are truly awe inspiring to look at. Some of them look as though they are from a fairy tale. So elegantly built with a powerful presence within the land surrounding them.
These Mystical historic buildings are often so filled with History that they take you back to another time. Back to an Era where whole communities of people occupied these magnificent residences. The history of many of these places really gets the imagination going as you delve into the past. They really are remarkable buildings indeed.
My love of our Castles and Palaces
Since early age, I have always loved visiting historic places, especially our ancient and wonderful Castles and Palaces that we have dotted around all over Scotland. My enthusiasm for these magnificent buildings has never waned over the years and this is a pastime I still love dearly.
From ancient Bronze and Celtic hill fortresses right through to the decadent Stone built buildings of the Middle ages, these places have always captured my attention. the history that they hold often stirs my imagination and takes me back to the past as I envisage the bustling communities that went on within the walls of these places.
Back on Tour again
I have enjoyed visiting many of our great historic buildings over the years and so I thought it’d be a good idea to start my tour again and document my visits right here. So that everyone may share in the experience as well as learn of the history and marvel of them.
I intend to visit each and every one of Scotland’s 932 Castles, Palaces and Historic Houses starting from scratch. Revisiting places I have been before as well as visiting places for the first time.
So, you will be able to read of my adventures since I will be writing about each of my visits as I go around them all. I will also be attending some of the many events at these places too which I will also be writing about right here. There will also be many future events posted up here should you wish to come along and join in the experience.
Discover the History
Whenever I visit these historic buildings, I love to learn all about their history. I guess history has always been a subject that I have always had a fascination with. It really does captivate my attention. I love to share the Knowledge and Facts of history that I learn.
So I will be writing all about the history of each of the castles and palaces that I visit. So, I look forward to learning a wealth of historical knowledge as I work my way around them all. I’m really looking forward to that actually. I still love visiting these places.

Well, as I write my First Blog post here, I have yet to start touring all 932 sites. The website here is still rather empty. I haven’t even started visiting my way through the list of places yet, so there’s no account of them.
However, the content of this site will soon be filling up as I get into my history tour enthusiastically. I cant wait to get started. I’m looking forward to visiting many of the amazing places I’ve visited in the past (some of which on several occasions). But I’m also very keen to discover the many places I haven’t yet had the pleasure of visiting yet.
